Rainy today, eew. I made it onto the bus before the rain started, but had to walk the half-mile to work in jeans and mesh slippers. Duh, idiot. Pants still haven't dried.

The Hope of the States show at Bowery last night was fucking awesome, despite the fact that they haven't got an American album yet so, um, 'til I pony up for an import, I don't actually own any of their music.

Actually, correction. As of last night, I'm the proud <s>creator</s> owner of a bootleg of "Enemies/Friends." And I think it's now my policy to do something even more insidious and illegal whenever a bouncer thinks they can crack down on the übercam. Bitch, please.

Anyway, HotS were fantastic ('course I'll say that about most any band that has a violinist *swoon*), as were the Blueskins, who opened for them. Adrienne somehow managed to avoid the call of the Ron-haired lead singer and spent the set staring at the guitarist instead. Afterwards we ran into Jonny Dubowsky of Jonny Lives! and chatted with him for a while. We finally straightened him out on the fact that it's me, not Adrienne, who has the übercam; he said he loved the pictures I sent him from Mercury so much he wants to put them on posters *squees* and wants the ones from Sin-é on CD. We all moaned for a while about how much American music sucks - even the good bands get signed in the UK - and how we're starting to recognize people from other shows. How scene-y.

Um, dunno what else there is to report. I'm feeling a lot better about shit at work. I dropped off my resume for the full-time position today so, uh, we'll see what comes of that. I figure they pretty much have to interview me, and I can explain then why it's not a mistake to hire someone who's still in school. Buys me a semester off and, strangely, more flexibility and opportunity to actually live like I want to. Worst case, it's interview practice, and it lets the powers know that, like, I'm up for that sorta thing.

This weekend is fun at Vigie's tomorrow and FA redesign work on Sunday. (FA's coming along really nicely - should be very pretty when it's finished.) Fingers crossed that I can get the Hatmione pattern all set tonight - I did a bunch of work on it the night before last, and now all that's left is to redo one table and set the photos. I can worry about coding the new shipping calculation shit later. Time now to sell patterns!

And also - three more years. *smirkwink*

Wednesday. Wednesday I will finally take good pictures of Hatmione. I've been such a lump about it - we had the most incredible sunny day on Saturday but, being that our apartment is north-facing on the second floor, none of it actually comes in the windows as direct sunlight, or even reflected-off-glass-buildings direct sunlight. I haven't the foggiest what I'll do about scarf pictures, but for Hatmione I can easily enough tote the glass head, hat, and camera to a park and keep the immediate background clear and the f-stop wide open.

Except that I'd have to not be a lazy bastard and actually do that.

So, the head's coming to work. I'll have an entire hour to find the perfect spot in Washington Square, shoot a couple dozen pictures, and end the guilt. Get that done, and then swatch for gauge (yeah, I didn't swatch beforehand, fucking sue me :p), proofread my PDF and (HAHA) whip up a shipping-calculation script, and I can put up my feet and watch the money flow in. This is why designing is omgsomuchbetter than piece knitting. :D

Been, um, D&D-xiled all night. I really shouldn't complain, since the one total pain in the ass guy in the game is pretty much not coming for the next several months (score!) (seriously, total pain in the ass, to the extent that I've gone out of my way to be bitchy-bitchy (not "oh she's always like that" bitchy) at him :D), but that means they can play later and keep me away from my Photoshop and my patterns in progress for pretty much the entire night. Fortunately I'd burned Dayna's PoA bootleg to CD to watch on the Podling, but that's it for entertainment for me 'til I finally grow the stones to bid on a used DVD-ROM. If I could actually watch Wizard People in the comfort of the bedroom, I would die. The good kind of die. The happy kind.

Oh, but I knitted my own stuff tonight. :D Dug out my Ravenclaw Quidditch socks for a bit and got almost halfway through the foot, then switched to my Quidsweater sleeves for the duration of the movie. I just barely kept myself from balling my bday KPM and starting a pair of striped, toe-up Broadripples. One pair of blue striped socks at a time. :p

Shar is tempting me with impromptu weekend trips again. This is where I say evil things about her without really meaning them because really I've been itching for a weekend trip for months. Evil evil evil woman. I wonder if there's any good shows in Boston soon.

Decided to walk home up Fourth Ave instead of Third to check out the Aveda place Cat had mentioned, which really does offer $20 cuts by people who speak English. They're even open 'til 8, so I could go after work, and they take walkins and everything. I'm sorely tempted to go tomorrow if Jon's mom isn't coming over to <s>inspect</s> see the apt, because the frizzy ends have really gotta go. Jon's freaked out by the prospect of my hair being shorter than his, so I probably won't lop it off all in one go. Anyway. Impending haircut. Yay!

Anyway, I swing up Irving Place since it's pretty and quiet and the rich people are scared of me, and I see a handful of people camped outside of Irving Plaza. Like, camped camped - lawn chairs, sleeping bags, pup tents, the works. These folks are not kidding around. I remember Erin's post about how hardcore Hanson fans are at GA shows, so jokingly, I'm like, "ooh, I wonder if Hanson is playing this weekend." And then I squint at the signage across the street (because how annoying is it for some asshole to cross the street to ask what you're waiting for? really annoying!) and Hanson is playing tomorrow night. hee.

Yay! Empty office already means music for Lauren. I might even knit in a bit, 'cause there is literally no one here. Well, except for the janitor, but whatever. No one who gives a shit about ratting bored little parttimers out. Score!

I made it to the concert last night, somehow. I changed my tapes a bit early and was out the door at 7.30 on the dot... and then waited half an hour for the bus across Houston, which never came. Wound up walking from Washington Square to Houston and Ave B in Chinatown slippers, in the pouring rain, with my umbrella over my bag instead of me 'cause the $500 camera? Doesn't really benefit from getting soaked. Of course neither do I, but at least I still work afterwards.

At any rate, Jonny Lives! went on late enough that I made it to the club with plenty of time to spare, during which Dayna and I listened to Adri's hospital tales. meep. JL were great, of course. It became clear after a bit that the band had absolutely no recollection of who the three girls in the front were, because all three of them kept giving us looks like "wtf, we're pictureworthy???" throughout the set. We stayed for the second act and the first couple songs of the third, then took off.

Shitload of concerts coming up next month - the Killers, the Strokes, the Libertines. Of course the last thing I need to be doing right now is spending money since even $20 tickets are expensive when there's $300 in your checking account... but whatever, right? I just wish Franz would release their New York tour date for September already so I could stop worrying about how I'll beg off work - or class, if I'm unlucky, since SFX Makeup is Wednesday nights, and it's mean to Dayna to pray for a Saturday night concert. It'd be the first class, though... guess that's the one to miss, if I have to. Still. Goddamn school, messing up my concert plans.

My new knitting business cards came the other day, and they're really pretty. I tried to post pictures of 'em yesterday, but that went really badly. Suffice it to say that they're soooo much nicer than Kinko's makeshift cards - grey laid paper with raised black printing. Cheaper, too. yays.

hehe, I'm subjecting other people to "Michael" now. Not even the only one here anymore, but the headphones aren't coming off. They're just not.

Only it's not the panicky OMGMYLIFEISOVER spazzout I usually get - it's just a calm realization over the past week or so that there's really no way I can ever graduate from Gallatin, period. I spent four years fucking around without a good advisor to yell at me to pick something and stick with it, and now I have two incompletes to magically finish and a rationale and a colloquium and I just don't care. I just don't. I don't see why I should waste another $20K on one more semester so that I can get a piece of paper that will do precisely nothing when it comes to getting a job. I still want a degree - just in something useful that won't have been a tremendous waste of time. I know I'll need that piece of paper to ever get a decent job, but I need to be capable of actually getting the paper, too.

Of course, exactly what that might be - considering that I hate to write, burned out in bio, and flunked out of chem - is anyone's guess. I'm sure as hell coming up blank.

Jesus it's freezing in this office. I know I complain about it practically every day - or at least it feels like I do - but today is especially bad because I have no choice but to wear a stupid tank top and muppets. I managed to suburn myself rather ouchily on Saturday, so regular bras or anything with sleeves is completely out of the question. I spent yesterday in the vaguely ugly tube top that I am so glad - SO GLAD - I blew $9 on. Of course I could've worn long pants to counter the sleevelessness, but it's rainy and soggy pantlegs in a cold office? nuh uh, I don't think so.

So yeah. Kidney stones for Adrienne; kick in the head and a need for condolences from JoAnna; Shar's shoulder is being busted, as is her watch; heat exhaustion and an impending trip home (not the fun kind) for Shawn. Sabs sorta hurt her leg and I can't wear workplace-appropriate clothing for at least another couple days. Anya spent yesterday locked in her cousin's apartment. But Nat made it through the weeekend with just some severe sleep deprivation! Score!

So, yeah. Sigh. I've been trying diligently to be Unfailingly Optimistic Girl for the last day and a half, but you guys can guess how well that's gone. Like the idiot I am, I had a Mountain Dew with dinner (the 10pm kind of dinner, oi) and spent the following six hours being pissed at the world for abusing my friends. After three hours of 'sleep' (I flip over a lot at night and kept rolling on owwie spots) I managed to skip breakfast, leave 10 minutes late for work, forget my knitting, not have time for coffee, etc etc etc. So I'm freezing and hungry and exhausted and when I finally get my break an hour from now, it'll doubtless be rainy and miserable because that's the weather forecast for this week. Me == stabs things.

Honestly, the weekend was not a total loss. Until Adri's kidney started being a bastard, the worst thing to happen was Anya's getting lost twice, which was more funny than scary or annoying. We did the Rickman on the M23 bus, per tradition, and quoted Wizard People and hit the Hell's Kitchen Flea Market and had a perfectly good lunch at that hub of cosmopolitan dining, the Olive Garden. Jet, aside from the assholes in the crowd and the camera policy that was just lame enough to be extremely annoying, was really goddamn good. And even yesterday, I found the US "Take Me Out" single for $3 after dropping Sabs off at Penn. Granted, I've already got both the disc's b-sides as mp3s, but still. I've bought singles that cost more than entire albums.

I just want it to be happy fun time for once. The 'aw shit, group hug' vibe is getting old.

My other fingers have decided my right index had a good idea in suddenly losing all its skin, and have since joined in on the fun. After scrubbing the apartment into shiny clean oblivion tonight, I expect I'll look like I soaked my hands in drain cleaner or something.

(Oh goddess of the body butter, Shar, can you rec me a nummy one that's good for the hands? :D)

Which, of course, I have been, sorta. The bathroom sink is all clogged and fucked up. The stopper won't come all the way out, which means I spent the morning drizzling Drano ounce-by-ounce into the sink since it won't actually go down, and all over my hands and the house in the process. And you know what's more fun than bitchy PMSing sleep-deprived Lauren? Bitchy PMSing sleep-deprived Lauren with a chemical headache hacking her brain to bits.

I did, however, manage to sleep just enough last night to have a dream (nightmare, really). I dreamt that I came into work today and promptly got fired in front of the entire department. Munchkin!boss took real pleasure in it, too, and refused to tell me why he was firing me or what I could do to be unfired. (I distinctly remember groveling and pleading to keep my job, which in retrospect is hilariously out of character for me.) I woke up immediately afterward and started freaking out 'til I remembered that, yesterday's IT snarkiness aside, I've been pretty much a model employee recently.

Then again, I was pretty much a model employee (who happened to miss a lot of work because her extended family decided to start dying all at once) when I got fired from the library, but that was mostly because my non-English-speaking douche of a boss didn't have the balls to hit on me like he hit on everybody else. Or, if I'm at a job interview, because of "budgetary restrictions".

At any rate, I come in this morning and my day boss is like, "So we decided we wanna teach you how all of our fancy recording equipment works since you're the one who's always debugging it." Score. :D

Woman on the bus this morning was an absolute dead ringer for Bonne Marie. Seriously, I was like, wtf mate? She went to open her bag and I thought, "oh shit, she's gonna pull out some knitting and then I can't not say something!" and she put on headphones and I realized I was just being a t00b.

I wish I was cool and had an operational espresso machine in my office like Jon has. Ours hasn't been used or washed as long as I've worked here and I don't think we even have any packets for it. Goddammit.

I swear to god, if one more shithead calls up with some absolutely ridiculous problem, there will be punching in of faces.

Yes, this relates directly to both my judgment of our IT department as being thoroughly incompetent, and my hatred of business students and their outright lack of courtesy for anyone even slightly below their lofty lot in life.

Faces. Punched in. Oh yes.

Unless Adri can lend me her airhorn. That ought to at least get me through the rest of the day without bloodshed.
